MINIMAL ORDERS AND BOXING RESTRICTIONS:

  • Bare root stock is usually bundled 5 per bundle and can be ordered in any quantity.
  • In pot grafts we require Junipers be ordered so that the total plants ordered be an even hundred. You may break this up into 50 of one type, 50 of another, etc. Minimal order per variety must be 25. Any orders resulting in a partial box may be subject to special boxing charges.
  • In Spruce and Pine pot grafts we require 60 per box. This box also can be split between varieties. Minimum order between varieties is 10.

SPECIALTY PROPAGATION: We can custom propagate under contract. Please contact us to discuss any items you desire. We may be limited due to minimal quantities or understock availability.

CARE OF BARE ROOT LINERS: Upon receipt of bare root stock, insure the roots are moist, store the roots of the liners in straw, sand, mulch, soil, or any other material that will keep the roots moist and out of the wind. Plant or Pot the plants as soon as possible insuring adequate moisture. All plants upon receipt should be acclimated to Midwest weather conditions.

CARE OF POT GRAFTS (JUNIPERS): Junipers are shipped in a 2.25 inch plastic pot. Each graft will be individually wrapped in paper for protection. Upon receipt, remove the grafting rubber strip around the graft, and pot or plant the graft as soon as possible with the graft incision at ground level. We recommend waiting until the plants are 1 year old to go to final field spacing, however many of our customers successfully plant the pot grafts direct to the field. Be cautious of plant dry out and wind breaking apart the tender graft union. Bamboo stakes would be helpful.

CARE OF POT GRAFTS (SPRUCE AND PINE): Spruce and pine are shipped in a 3 inch plastic pot and also individually wrapped in paper. Remove the grafting rubber strip upon arrival and plant or pot the plants into a 30% shade environment. The grafts will still have some of the understock plant left on the plant. DO NOT REMOVE THE REMAINING UNDERSTOCK UNTIL FALL OR SPRING OF THE SECOND YEAR. The understock encourages root growth and builds plant strength for the next season. At the end of the plants first growing season remove the remainder of the understock as close as possible to the graft union. Early removal of the understock can result in plant death due to shutdown of the root system. Spruce and pine are very tender in the first season, however after the first year they are as durable as any seedling.

HERBICIDES AND FERTILIZERS: It is prudent to be very cautious in the use of strong herbicides and high rate fertilizers until your plants are well established. Follow all label recommendations.
